E-mail Short for "electronic mail," e-mail has exploded in popularity. You can type up a letter just like regular mail, only, instead of a stamp, envelope and mailbox, it's send with a few mouse clicks, and can travel across the world in seconds.
Forums Forums are essentially online message boards. There's a few million on the Internet at any given time, on just about any hobby, interest, topic, news item, social issue or news story. They're also useful for exchanging information and helping one another learn new skills and programs.
URL That long number with too many decimal points is the physical address of your computer. It stands for "uniform resource locator" and with it, your e-mail, your web surfing habits, and anything you upload or type in forums or chat rooms, can be traced back to you.
Search engine Search engines are just like they sound - computer programs that search the World Wide Web for specific terms you enter. Search engines merely find and display sites that seem to match criteria you've entered; they do not screen them for safety or accuracy.
